New prizes for master’s dissertations and PhD theses on peace and conflict

The Peace, Conflict and Violence Research Group and the Global Insecurities Centre are delighted to announce a call for nominations for this year’s Best Master’s Dissertation and Best PhD Thesis on topics related to peace, conflict and/or violence.

The two new prizes are generously sponsored by Bristol University Press (BUP) and hold a value of £150 each, to be spent on BUP books.

‘We’re delighted to support the high-quality, cutting-edge research produced in Bristol on as crucial topics as peace, conflict and violence.’

– Phylicia Ulibarri-Eglīte, Bristol University Press Executive

The Research Group’s co-lead, Dr. Raphaël Lefèvre, and the GIC director, Professor Roddy Brett, view the launch of the two prizes as a recognition of the growing outstanding, critical and original research produced by Master’s and PhD students within the field of Peace and Conflict Studies.

‘This prize is about empowering and rewarding our students as they continue to engage with significant issues relating to global peace and security, particularly at a moment of such significant concern and uncertainty.

We believe these prizes will acknowledge how SPAIS students are paving the way in developing original research and innovative policy approaches to violent conflict.’

In order to be eligible for the prizes, submitted Master’s dissertations and PhD must:

(2) critically assess theories, mechanisms, actors and/or practices of peace, violence and conflict; this can include (but is not limited to) studies of armed conflict and other forms of violence, conflict resolution, and transitional justice or other mechanisms seeking to prevent and control post-conflict violence.

Please note that for Master’s dissertations, a threshold of a 73 classmark is required.

Nominations for the prize can come from students and from their supervisors. Please send your submissions to Dr Raphaël Lefèvre at raphael.lefevre@bristol.ac.uk.
